About The National Musical Theatre Summer School

AMTA’s 2022 National Musical Theatre Summer School will be curated and led by musical theatre star and Australia’s leading teacher of audition technique for musical theatre, Queenie van de Zandt.

Having studied audition technique for over 20 years and with 30+ years as one of Australia’s leading ladies of musical theatre, Queenie knows everyone who’s anyone in the “business of show”. Over that time, Queenie’s developed a unique methodology to help people audition successfully for musical theatre. Her training has helped hundreds of former students gain lead roles in shows such as Frozen, Mary Poppins, Hamilton, Girl from North Country, Jagged Little Pill, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Come from Away, A Chorus Line, Pippin, West Side Story, School of Rock, Shrek, Ragtime, Book of Morman, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Pricilla: Queen of the Desert, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Sound of Music, Grease, Matilda, Singin’ in the Rain, and Les Miserables, to name just a few. In fact, her former students have played leading roles in nearly every professional musical produced in Australia since the year 2000. It is this success that has seen her hailed in the press as a ‘musical theatre star-maker’.

Each day participants will work with Queenie and a who’s who of musical theatre creative artists, participating in intensive workshops and industry masterclasses with our highly talented guest tutors.

HAIRSPRAY
MEAN GIRLS

Alongside this, participants will also take part in specialty masterclasses covering disciplines like audition technique, accents, voice work, and improvisation, with parents having an option to also purchase a Certified CV Template to ensure their child leaves the workshop audition ready for 2022.

The jam-packed week will culminate in a Gala Showcase Performance at the Kingston Arts Centre Theatre, where family can come along, grab a drink and a snack from the foyer bar, and watch the students perform alongside some of Australia’s leading musical theatre performers.

The Summer School will be tailored to suit both Youth Performers (aged 7-13 years), as well as Pre-Professionals (aged 14+ years), and will run from 9:00am-5:00pm every day from January 17 - 21, with the Showcase Performance on the Friday night.

If you have a young musical theatre performer who wants to have a standout, professional summer workshop experience that’s a huge amount of fun, come and join the best in this biz at the 2022 National Musical Theatre Summer School.

“Queenie's master classes are an incredible introduction to the industry…I was hugely impressed by the quality of the participants – and the teachers and tutors are a who's who of the entertainment industry.  I cannot recommend this course highly enough.”
