The Musical Theatre Intensive Weekly Masterclasses in Melbourne and Sydney will be led by two of Australia’s most highly esteemed veterans of musical theatre, Queenie van de Zandt (Melb) and Margi de Ferranti (Syd).
Queenie van de Zandt is the co-founder of The Australian Musical Theatre Academy and the creator of The Musical Theatre Intensive Weekly Masterclasses. Combining 20+ years of studying audition technique with her 30+ years as a multi-award winning performer of musical theatre, Queenie developed an unique audition and performance practice, that has helped her students gain lead roles in shows such as Chicago, Beauty & the Beast, Miss Saigon, & Juliet, Wicked, TINA - The Tina Turner Musical, RENT, ELVIS: The Musical Revolution and Grease to name just a few. Her remarkable history of former students going on to become renowned performers in commercial musicals has seen her hailed in the press as a musical theatre star-maker’.
Margi de Ferranti is one of Australia’s leading ladies of musical theatre, having performed leading roles in iconic shows such as Mamma Mia, Grease, Les Misérables, Aspects of Love, Fame and In the Heights. For the past 20 years she has been focusing her time on working with the next generation of stars, as well as being the go-to vocal coach to industry professionals in Sydney, teaching at major performing arts schools such as NIDA, AIM, and Brent St as well as running her own studio, Margi de Ferranti’s Vocal Expertise.
In addition to learning AMTA’s unique audition practice with Queenie (in Melb) & Margi (in Syd), over the 20 masterclasses, the talented 10 participants in each stream, will get to work with and showcase their talents to Australia’s leading musical theatre directors, casting and theatrical agents, actors, choreographers, vocal and accent coaches, and musical directors.

As there are only 10 places available in each weekly masterclass, participants will be chosen through an online audition process. The Musical Theatre Intensive Weekly Masterclasses will be tailored not only to the skills and challenges of the 10 successful participants but will also adapt to respond to the theatrical marketplace and the auditions and opportunities that present themselves during course.
NB. Although the masterclasses will run in person in Sydney and in Melbourne, performers from anywhere in Australia are encouraged to apply for the Melbourne classes. We hold a limited number of places for online participants to join the Melbourne classes, to continue AMTA’s commitment to bringing world-class theatrical training to regional areas.
Also, once the course has begun, if we still have a space available, or if a performer cannot attend each weekly masterclass, we still encourage them to apply, as each masterclass is structured so that participants can film their work beforehand to be watched by the tutor during the session, and each class is recorded so that students can catch up on classes missed and still receive feedback on their work.
