Over one, jam-packed day, running from 9:00am – 6:00pm children experience what it's like to audition for a professional musical as they are taught songs, scenes and dance routines from the musical ‘Annie’, by leading industry creatives and put through their paces in a mock audition.
Along with learning the material they need to know to feel confident in auditions, the children are also taught our unique audition and performance preparation method developed by AMTA's co-founder and multi-award winning musical theatre star, Queenie van de Zandt.
Queenie is widely regarded as Australia’s leading teacher of audition technique for musical theatre. Her teachings have helped her students gain leading roles in shows such as Beauty & the Beast, Wicked, TINA – The Tina Turner Musical, Hamilton, Six: The Musical, Chicago, Mary Poppins, Annie, Matilda and Grease, to name just a few. The remarkable number of her students who have gone on to become renowned performers in commercial musicals, has seen her hailed in the press as a ‘musical theatre star-maker’.
The workshop ends with parents joining their children for a Q&A with a leading industry creative, and a performance of all the material the students prepared during the workshop. After the workshop parents are sent further information to help navigate their child through the audition process.
And like all of our workshops and courses at The Australian Musical Theatre Academy (AMTA), during the workshop they’ll be working with some of Australia’s leading performing and creative artists - the people who create and/or perform in Australia’s most prominent, commercial musicals.
Our workshops are comprehensive AND fun with your children leaving the workshop:
- Having sung, acted, and danced with some of Australia’s best musical theatre practitioners
- Having prepared what they need to know to walk into an audition with confidence and ease
- With a sense of being part of a theatrical community and a great attitude towards the whole experience of auditioning
- With a certificate of attendance to acknowledge their skill and participation
- With the edge they need to get the part!
As well as that, parents:
- Will be sent an email chock-a-block full of invaluable follow up material, to help them navigate the logistics of having such a talented youngster including Queenie’s e-book: “How to Audition for a Professional Musical” and a research pack to help them further prepare their child for upcoming auditions.
